Mar 17–20. Love’s Conversation is Dance / Efva Lilja

We are happy to present Efva Lilja at Weld again. After 2020’s major installation with dance pictures and words, she is back with a stripped-down solo where she meets Per-Henrik Mäenpää’s electronic music written specifically for this piece. The title of the solo is also the collective name of a newly published book trilogy and a series of pictures that she is exhibiting this spring.

Love’s Conversation is Dance features life in and through choreographic strategies, navigating past deceit, inner and outer chaos. It makes art function as a reconstruction of what we perceive as unsatisfactory, thereby giving us new perspectives on ourselves, each other and our existence. It is an hour-long pounding on the meaning of life and living in a confused and politically bewildering time, like an inner dialogue about experiences and sentiments, about love and the art of survival. Here and now.

For years I’ve worked with a concept I call the technologies of listening and the practice of thinking. I listen out the movement. Choreography becomes a survival strategy and dance a resistance stance, a poem of life and the voice of love. In collaboration with composer Per-Henrik Mäenpää I explore the relationship between the mental and the physical, as I dance beyond words.

EFVA LILJA
works with choreography as dance, imagery and text in works that take us through different layers of consciousness, erotic episodes, contemplative calm or playfulness with a political edge. Her works are both entertaining and worrying when she tackles the basic human condition with singular suggestive power. She is an unconventional artist, who uses choreographed sequences in the formation of a reality where everyday events and actions are transformed and given new expressions. She creates cross-disciplinary works that have been described as beautiful, poetic, controversial and groundbreaking. Her works have been shown in some forty countries and her books and articles have been translated to several languages.
