May 2. Film at Weld. VOID / Irina Anufrieva (SE/BY)
On Sunday 2 May, a filmed documentation of Irina Anufrieva’s solo VOID is projected on the big wall at Weld. It will be shown for a full day. An intense visual and sounding meeting between dance artist Irina Anufrieva and voice artist Diamanda Galás.
Irina Anufrieva’s danced solo VOID is a performance based on Diamanda Gala’s music and film work Schrei 27 (1996). Anufrieva interprets the music and takes the theme further, processing torture in isolation.
In VOID the dancer embodies acts of torture enforced onto a human being as well as the physical and mental effects of it unfolding in time. On Weld’s raw wall, a filmed documentation of the solo is projected, which was shown live at Fylkingen in October 2018, filmed and edited by the artist piak.
To be in pain, but not be able to share or show, to feel isolated, but not have the ability to scream. There is something at the same time frightening and deeply human in the physical state Irina Anufrieva activates in the encounter with Gala’s multiphonic powerful voice, which allows pain to flow uncontrollably and helps to articulate others´as well. Piercing, guttural screams of pain, crescendos of raw human sound, visceral primeval calls and episodes of silence form the extended aria of pain – that is Schrei 27 by Diamanda Galás.
