Dec 17. I love my dancers / Uri Turkenich (IL/DE) + Geraldo Si (BR/DE)

"I love my dancers" is a performance by Uri Turkenich, which explores a special moment in German history, the emergence of the form “Tanztheater” and German choreographer Pina Bausch, and Tanztheater Wuppertal 1977-78.

The performance is based on a series of interviews with four front figures in the German dance: Raimund Hoghe, Susanne Linke, Dominique Mercy and William Forsythe. Their life stories are intertwined in relation to Pina Bausch and her significance for the genre. Breaking out of the existing artistic and social environment in both Western German political theatre and modern dance made her work exceptional until today.

Geraldo Si – former dancer in Tanztheater Wuppertal and Uri Turkenich proposes a series of short discussions where Geraldo represents the older generation and Uri a younger theatre maker of today. The two artists talk and dance and confront their worldview and understanding of theatre and its context. They discuss working conditions in Tanzteater Wuppertal, the atmosphere in Wuppertal and in West Germany during the 70's, the relationship between politics and theatre over time.

Interviews and texts on which the performance is based are published in the Slovenian newspaper Maska, which is available in connection with the performance.
