Kneeding is a choreography for three men. It explores how inner processes manifest themselves externally and how the exterior influences what is within. The palpable reality of matter – the dancing body and its tactile surroundings – is combined with the immaterial reality of imagination. Kneeding works its way through the interlocking spaces of the mind and body, sustaining an ever-shifting environment. Dancing, the performers challenge their own self-perception, generating an introspection that rouses both centripetal and centrifugal force. Seated on three sides of the dancers, the spectators become close witnesses of this undertaking. They are complicit in the act of producing and collecting the images that emerge, and at times literally implicated in the events that materialize amidst them.

Frédéric Gies (F/DE) is a choreographer and dancer. He lives and works in Berlin, and is part of the collective Praticable, together with Isabelle Schad, Odile Seitz and Frederic de Carlo. His recent pieces include Album (Praticable) (‘09) and Dance (Praticable) which exists both as a solo version (‘06) and a group version (‘08). He published the score of Dance (www.dancepraticable.net). This publication includes texts by Bojana Cvejic, Petra Sabisch, Simon Hecquet and Sabine Prokhoris. Together with Andrea Keiz he also made a DVD of video-works that is part of the project Album (Praticable). In collaboration with Alice Chauchat, he created The breast piece (Praticable)(‘07), and together with Manuel Pelmus, Bruno Pocheron and Isabelle Schad the performance Still Lives (‘06). He is currently working on a new collaboration with Jefta van Dinther and DD Dorvillier entitled The Blanket Dance.
Thiago Granato (BR) is a dancer and choreographer from Brazil, who lives and works in Europe since 2008. He is currently working in various projects with the choreographers Mathilde Monnier, Jefta van Dinther, Xavier Le Roy and Énora Rivière. He also collaborates with the International Contemporary Dance Festival in São Paulo. He is trained in classical, modern and contemporary dance since 1998. He creates his own work as a choreographer, among them ALGODÃO (1998) and ONDE ESTÃO OS CAVALEIROS (2000) in collaboration with the choreographer Simone Mello, DOBRA (2004) in collaboration with the dancer Laura Samy, PLAN B (2008) in collaboration with the director Cristian Duarte, WE ARE NOT SUPERFICIAL, WE LOVE PENETRATION (2008) and TOMBO (2009) with the association DESABA. Between 2000-2008 he developed works in collaboration with Brazilians choreographers such as Adriana Grechi, Lia Rodrigues, João Saldanha, Cristina Moura, Neto Machado and Thelma Bonavita. He took part of the education project Ex.e.r.ce 8, coordinated by Xavier Le Roy, at the Center Choreographic National de Montpellier, directed by Mathilde Monnier. He was dance teacher at the Estúdio Nova Dança (São Paulo), as well as for the Contemporary Dance Companies of Dani Lima (Rio de Janeiro), Déborah Colker (Rio de Janeiro), Lia Rodrigues (Rio de Janeiro) and Gustavo Ciríaco (Rio de Janeiro)
David Kiers (NL) graduated from the Sonology degree program at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag, the Netherlands. In the recent years his main focus as an image and sound artist has been on the collaboration with Gideon Kiers and Lucas van der Velden under theTelcosystems moniker (http://www.telcosystems.net). Their search for a personal language in the world of abstract computer generated image and sound has produced a string of performances, installations and short films, which have been shown and nominated for awards all over the world (Sonar/Barcelona, de Appel/Amsterdam, International Short Film Festival/Oberhausen, Boijmans van Beuningen/Rotterdam, New York Digital Salon, ArsElectronica/Linz, Cyberarts Festival/Boston, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Transmediale/Berlin, Wood Street Galleries/Pittsburgh USA). In 2009 Telcosystems received the Gus Van Sant award for best experimental film, for their short film Loud things. Besides this he has composed music for various theatre and video productions like the Panic Productions pieces Dead Meat (’07) and Private Dancer (’08), and Skubriocha, a sound poetry performance with Valeri Scherstjanoi, performed during the 2007 International Poetry Festival in Berlin.
Jefta van Dinther (SE/NL) is a choreographer and dancer living and working in Amsterdam, Berlin and Stockholm. He grew up in Sweden, whereafter he moved to the Netherlands and graduated from the Amsterdam School of the Arts (MTD) in 2003. His latest production Kneeding, a choreography for three men, premiered in Amsterdam in March 2010. In 2009 he made the quintet The Way Things Go, a slowly moving sculpture of cause and effect. Together with Mette Ingvartsen he created the performance IT’S IN THE AIR, previously shown at TQW. In collaboration with Bojana Cvejic, Mette Ingvartsen, Sandra Iche and Jan Ritsema (COCOs) he made the performance Breeding, Brains and Beauty. He has been engaged as a performer with various choreographers, among others: Keren Levi, Leine&Roebana, Pere Faura, Carolien Hermans, Inari Salmivaara, Mette Ingvartsen, Frederic Gies and Ivana Muller. During 2008/2009 he was one of the participants in the project 6 Months 1 Location (6M1L), an experiment in education, production and research at the choreographic centre of Montpellier. Together with the other participants of 6M1L he co-curated In-Presentable Festival 2009 in Madrid. He is currently working on the long-term project The Blanket Dance, in collaboration with DD Dorvillier and Frederic Gies, which includes both research and education and a performance that will premiere in February 2011. This summer he will also start a new project together with light-designer Minna Tiikkainen, during residency at WELD, Stockholm.
