Lecture /artist talk by Elske Rosenfeld, Berlin, March 7

Elske Rosenfeld is critically reviewing the state socialism in the former Eastern Bloc, especially the years 1989/1990 and which covered political potentials that could emerge through its history. Rosenfeld urges us to take a closer look at this, not to revive or re-write the past, but as an opportunity to fantasize about something else, an alternative future. How can a work of art produce other imaginary values and worlds, rather than just recall the already existing?

Elske Rosenfeld (born 1974) is an artist and former member of the collaborative group Big Hope. She works in various methods and media such as video, text, talks and workshops. Presently her artistic research focuses on the spaces in between the personal and the collective memory, and the processes with which histories are written. Rosenfeld lives and works in Berlin. She is currently doing a PhD at the Akademie der Bildende Künste in Vienna. Read more at www.elskerosenfeld.net/
