Bal Moderne Ft. M.E.D.A.L.S.S. is an innovative and inclusive dance project created for children and young people. A place where movement becomes language, storytelling and meetings across borders. Bal Moderne Ft. M.E.D.A.L.S.S. is made for school years 1-4 on 6, 7 and 8 May.
Seven international choreographers have been invited to create choreographies – each with their unique style, background and story. Children will enjoy dances that mix the playful with the symbolic, the traditional with the innovative. Each child is given the opportunity to express themselves in their own way and contribute their personality to the dance form.

The project is a contemporary interpretation of French filmmaker Michel Reilhac’s concept of Bal Moderne – a type of dance party where people dance simple choreographies together in groups. Everyone dances the same movements at the same time, much like a line dance – but in a more varied and often playful style.
The best thing about Bal Moderne is that you don’t need to be a good dancer. The choreographies are simple and taught on the spot, so everyone can join in and have fun!
All dances are easy to learn, but at the same time they have artistic flair and unexpected elements that challenge children’s perspectives and imagination. The project is also a safe space where children’s own reactions, expressions and interpretations are not only welcomed – they are part of the whole.
It is a project that aims to arouse curiosity, strengthen children’s self-confidence and provide a concrete experience of diversity and community. Dance becomes a tool for empathy, interculturality and creative learning.
Meeting with one or two choreographers, children get to experience and participate in live dance – but it doesn’t end there. The digital material (mini-interviews, instructional films, inspiration) enables further work in the classroom. You as an educator can work further with the dances, either as part of sport, music, art or thematic project work.
Bal Moderne Ft. M.E.D.A.L.S.S. is a tool for the joy of movement, cultural understanding and educational innovation. A chance to invite the world into the classroom – through dance.
