WELD EXTENDED
In the Weld Extended project, dancers with different backgrounds, skills and experiences are invited to work together with Swedish and international choreographers in curious and exploratory processes. The invitation to the choreographer consists of sharing their practice, returning to older material or exploring new material. For the dancers, it provides an opportunity to experience new methods and aesthetics, to be enriched and challenged, and to meet colleagues they may never have worked with before.
We want to provide opportunities for both newly graduated choreographers and dancers and established Swedish and international artists. Sometimes, Weld Extended can also be linked to existing projects or concepts that need a cohesive group structure, which is what we did in the 2024 process with Jeanine Durning. Weld wants to open up opportunities for more Swedish and international dancers and choreographers to work together through curious processes.

BJÖRN ELISSON
is trained at the Ballet Academy’s professional dance programme and the University of Dance’s choreography programme. An early interest in art and poetry shines through in Elisson’s choreographic works. He has had a long-standing collaboration with, above all, the poet Marianne Linder, but also with the authors Johanna Ekström and Eva Kristina Olsson, the composers Kent Tankred and Lars Åkerlund, the set designer Peter O Andersson and the lighting designer Tobias Hallgren.
Despite his own view of image and rhythm, he likes to see the dancers as partners when a new piece emerges. Elisson has stuck with certain dancers over the years, as he appreciates the polished, experienced and refined qualities that emerge in older bodies.
Among his numerous works are AURUM (2006), a four-part enalchemical suite in collaboration with poet Marianne Linder, Sken (2006) in collaboration with poet Johanna Ekström, Sibyllan / Vägvisaren – De allvetande hundarna III (2014), a collaboration between Elisson, Ekström and Åkerlund and Sanctum – A dance among the trees in Tantolunden / a tribute to all tree huggers in collaboration with Weld 2025
Weld is supported by the City of Stockholm, the Swedish Arts Council and Region Stockholm.
