Reconsideration, March 22-25
Omprövning by Anna Koch
Reconsideration(Omprövning) investigates the refined and skilled body of the ballet dancer as shaped by the traditional technique of ballet.
In 2011 Anna Koch initiated the first stage of the choreography project as work in progress. Now in 2012 its second stage the project will be presented as a solo dance performed by Anna-Mi Fredriksson who returns to Stockholm after an extensive period as a member of the ensemble of The English National Ballet. This will inaugurate her premiere on a Swedish stage. Later 2012 the project will develop further to a groupwork with four dancers.
Koch returns to the classical method by way of experimentation. It will be her first challenge against, and investigation into, this classical method, which has served as the foundation in her own schooling. The concept and understanding of a corporeal center that creates mathematically symmetrical coordination and control works here as the point of departure for a reconsideration.
By working with a classically schooled dancer within the premises of Weld one creates a repositioning of the body in terms of context from the institution of ballet, with its characteristically historical framework, to a space with its own specific codes and references. The technique of ballet is used here to create a connected series of movements that shift between those spaces.
Being under the pressure of this procedure the choreographer and the dancer are forced to renegotiate and defend their own artistic standpoints.
