Ride the wave dude, October 15-17th

Krõõt Juurak and Mårten Spångberg

Ride The Wave Dude is the first collaboration between Juurak and Spångberg, starting out with a residency in a kitchen the work has since taken new forms, toured to PAF, Vienna, Stockholm, Bologna and is now returning to Stockholm in its original form.
Ride The Wave Dude (RTWD) performs a drive to redefine central concepts such as crisis, repre¬sentation, wild-life, city or success and the notion of starting from the begin¬ning. To start from a place where nothing has been started implies a certain kind of risk management, where possible failure refers to reality-status rather than entertainment. RTWD is willing to take that risk and invites the spectator to share journeys in expression, thought and structure.

The work produced by Krõõt Juurak and Mårten Spångberg is not a collabora¬tion, not a sharing of ideas, concept or interest, but rather a state of war and blind struggle. One single issue is shared: the irreversible activation of deci¬sion. A decision that regulates liberty – that eliminates freedom – and gives up choice, in favor for an unconditional refusal to negotiate.

RTWD understood as a mode of production is an absolutely blank wave, void of probability.
Juurak and Spångberg situate their working processes in overcrowded places, between a holiday cottage and a derelict refugee camp. It is an activation of the vacationers’ idleness attacked by pure desperation, motivated by the pos¬sible emergence and amplification of any form of unmanageable conflict. It is a practice that renounces representation and surrenders to the impossibility of escape. It gives up as a mode of objection and in the act of giving themselves in, touches upon inconsistencies in society. It is an armed capitulation to a new form of success. It’s not a question of worry, hope, solution, dinner parties or a middle sized metropolitan city. It‘s a matter of finding, of producing and inventing new weapons.
