Weld Extended

Weld Extended

Weld Extended is an extension of the experimental project Weld Company (2013-2021).

In the autumn of 2023 we have invited dancers Argyri Samiotaki, Kacper Migas, Sigrid Sjöholm, Yari Stilo, Sanna Lundström to work in the studio with choreographer Przemek Kaminski. The work was based on a 4-part written score that Przemek developed. Each part was a distinct dance, based on a set of certain instructions.
We also had choreographer Virpi Pahkinen working with dancer William Nylind in a solo format. The invitation to the choreographer was to share her practice and to create choreographic material linked to 12 minutes of music composed by Swedish composer Tomas Björkdahl. The sharing of the work took place Nov 8th.

In the spring of 2023 we created Constellations and alliances: Chiron in Aries, Recital #4, a choreography by Frédéric Gies with premiere at Dansens Hus/Elverket o 16+17 February 2023. Read more here. Participating dancers: Elise Brewer, Brittanie Brown, Gergo D.Farkas, Nefeli Gioti, Andreas Haglund, Maria Naidu, Anna Pehrsson.

Weld Extended 2022. Choreographers: David Beharie, Nicole Neidert (SE), Elisabete Finger (BR/DE), Femke Gyselinck (BE), Harald Beharie (NO) and Virpi Pahkinen (SE) . Dancers participating in various constellations: Natalia Drozd, Andreas Haglund, Maria Naidu, Wiliam Nylind, Alice MacKenzie, Anna Pehrsson, Jade Stenhuijs and Stina Ehn.

Weld Company, initiated in 2013-2021, worked with choreographers and dancers representing different generations, working methods and expressions. Weld Company moves unrestrained through larger and smaller formats and by further developing the idea of a dance company and what it can be and do today.

The Company project aims to rediscover and revaluate the old institution of Dance Company and is updating the Company form through a collective work conducted through a clearly given structure. Dancers and choreographers from different backgrounds share a common, daily and physical practice. As well as working with invited choreographers, the company has also initiated self-made works and investigated the Swedish dance history. The members have contributed to and have been involved in selecting the content. The project could be seen as an enabling structure where new constellations and ideas become. The main focus is on the space freed to practice the art form. To become the dancing body, the dancing community and through this pose questions about dance and choreography today.

A book has been produced with the name ”No Talking No Props”, which could be bought at Weld, Konstbokhandeln Konst-ig, Rönnells and Malmö Konsthall.
